10 Organizations We Supported in 2023 That We’re Grateful For

At Millers Mutual, we pride ourselves on our culture of compassion, integrating it into every facet of our workday – and beyond. Our team members genuinely care about helping people and building connections, and 90% of our employees actively engage in charitable campaigns for organizations like the United Way of the Capital Region.

Our commitment to community service is as steadfast as our dedication to excellence within our industry. With a dedicated Charitable Giving Committee guiding our efforts, we pour resources into nonprofits that address crucial needs in our communities and have a tangible impact on wellness and safety, embodying our core values.

Here are 10 of the remarkable organizations and events that have been at the forefront of our philanthropic focus in 2023.

Making a Difference in 2023

American Red Cross

Millers directly supported the American Red Cross with a $1,000 donation to support recovery efforts during the historic Hawaii wildfires. Just a few months later, on live TV we presented the American Red Cross with a $15,000 donation for its Sound the Alarm program, which helps promote home fire safety and supports critical relief efforts after home fires. This occurred during our collaboration with the American Red Cross for Fire Prevention Week, which also included educational segments on fire safety and prevention. Our foundational partnership with the Red Cross enhances community safety and aligns with our values as a dwelling and mixed-use rental property insurance carrier.

Keystone Human Services

For families in Pennsylvania, Keystone Human Services provides life-changing support services, like mental health resources, legal assistance, and trained service dogs. We extended a $25,000 donation to the organization for its fire prevention initiatives, along with a $2,500 sponsorship for its celebrated Chocolate Ball fundraiser at the Hershey Lodge. Our partnership has also supported the Capital Area Head Start Program, aligning with our commitment to family and child welfare.

HDC MidAtlantic

With a $15,000 platinum sponsorship for HDC MidAtlantic, we proudly contribute to the nonprofit’s mission of providing safe, affordable, and quality housing solutions throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. Through our donation, we help support more than 4,800 people and provide our employees with meaningful volunteer opportunities within HDC communities.

Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region provides underserved children with one-on-one guidance that sets the tone for the rest of their lives. With a $3,000 sponsorship for the Bowl for Kids’ Sake signature event, Millers helps them reach more children, fostering strong futures for the next generation and resonating with our focus on community wellness and development.

Humane Society of Harrisburg

Each year, the United Way of the Capital Region hosts a Day of Caring, a volunteer event that encourages participants to give back to their communities and perform random acts of kindness. For the September 2023 occasion, Millers employees visited the Humane Society of Harrisburg and donated time and labor to paint the shelter’s kennels, demonstrating our hands-on approach to serving our communities. This event was just one more chapter in our storied support of United Way’s broad spectrum of community-focused initiatives.

Girls Give Back

Based in Ohio, Girls Give Back is a nonprofit that’s focused on helping young adults from difficult backgrounds live fulfilling, successful adult lives. We’re proud to have supported the nonprofit with a $1,500 donation, helping to power efforts like providing comfortable housing for those aging out of the foster care system while they receive mentorship to prepare them for independence.

American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign is a nationwide initiative that helps build and support a community for breast cancer survivors, thrivers, and their families and caregivers. With a $1,000 donation to this non-competitive walk event, Millers reaffirmed its commitment to advancing wellness and showing up for our communities.

Alzheimer’s Association

By sponsoring the Walk to End Alzheimer’s® with a $500 donation, Millers stood with those determined to eradicate this disease. Each step taken in the walk symbolizes the relentless pursuit of a breakthrough in the fight against Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc.

Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Inc. was founded in 2006 to help wounded warriors and their families, and 96% of donations go directly toward life-changing services for veterans, including assistance with housing costs and repairs, transportation, utilities, and leisure opportunities. The nonprofit is entirely operated by volunteers, which included part of the Millers team in 2023.

Tubmill Trout Club Unlimited

Tubmill Trout Club Unlimited’s commitment to conservation and recreation is passionately shared by Millers’ volunteers. We engage in the nonprofit’s beloved annual Kids Day event, which offers a weekend of family-oriented activities and sees close to 1,000 people attend each year. The outdoor event features food, games, prizes, and camping, and we’re pleased to participate in such a memorable, fun day for our community.
