Community Involvement

At Millers, we believe in giving back. For us, community engagement is both a corporate commitment and a personal responsibility. We understand that for Millers to thrive, the local communities we serve must also thrive. Our employees are always finding ways to pitch in and make a difference – and we have a whole lot of fun doing it. Some of the events and organizations we support include:

Operation Save A Life

Every year, thousands of people die or sustain life-threatening injuries in fires. Many of these injuries and fatalities could be prevented through the proper installation of a working smoke detector. That is the purpose behind “ABC27’s Operation Save a Life” a massive community information and fire safety campaign airing on ABC27. Millers Mutual is a proud sponsor of the 2015 campaign which includes on-air safety tips on how to help prevent fires and carbon monoxide poisoning in your home or business, information on correct alarm installation and operation, and tips on how to establish a fire safety plan for your family.

The American Red Cross

In an effort to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries, The “American Red Cross” launched a Home Fire Preparedness Campaign. Millers Mutual made a donation of 500 smoke detectors to the April 21, 2016, event in Lancaster, PA. Employees also volunteered to canvass designated neighborhoods to install smoke alarms, educate families about fire prevention and map fire escape routes.

Harrisburg Mile

Held annually on the banks of the Susquehanna River, the Harrisburg Mile is one of the region’s most popular race events. The race attracts an eclectic mix of over 2,000 competitive runners, corporate teams, families and casual walkers. Millers is a sponsor for this event and almost all of our employees volunteer in some capacity – helping with event registration, cheering on participants, and giving our resident athletes a chance to strut their stuff as race participants. All race proceeds benefit youth and child care programs at the YMCA.

Tour de Belt

This annual fund-raising bike tour is conducted on one of the nation’s oldest greenways – the 20-mile Capital Area Greenbelt – right here in Harrisburg. Millers has been a proud supporter of the Tour de Belt for many years. We supply t-shirts for all 800+ participants and field our own amateur team of over 40 riders, including employees, agency partners, and other casual friends of Millers.

United Way

Millers supports the annual United Way fundraising campaign with over 94 percent employee participation. In addition, we are active participants in the popular Day of Caring program – where employees get to show off their painting, carpentry and mechanical skills on a variety of public service projects. And, in 2013, we added the annual Trike Race to our lineup of United Way activities.

Bowl for Kids Sake

Millers is proud to support this signature fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters. In addition to mentoring their own “littles,” our employees come together each year for some friendly extracurricular competition on the lanes.
